Reality Remade – David Solomons – Surreal City #XperiaStudio
Photographer:
David Solomons
Description:
This series takes utterly banal situations and with a subtle twist in observation creates surreal moments, illustrating both a fictional and actual account of the society we live in today. Some images in the series I have submitted are linked by more obvious visual elements such as the crutches or the bicycle. In further shooting for the Reality Remade project, links between images may be more tenuous and will consider more abstract concepts or emotions.
The project will be shot exclusively in colour and will work as both a series and as individual images. They will mostly be taken in the London area both during the day and the evening.
Bio:
I grew up in London and later studied Documentary Photography at Newport. Since then I have mostly worked freelance along with producing a series of my own self initiated projects. Starting with ‘Underground’ which I shot when I was still at Newport, my other projects include ‘Up West’ (now complete) and currently ‘No Parking’. My first series was published as a book in 2009 along with ‘Happenstance’ a series of single black and white images.
That same year ‘Happenstance’ became my first solo exhibition in London and that was soon followed by ‘Up West’ at Third Floor Gallery in Cardiff the following year. I have also been involved in group exhibitions at Format in Derby, Photofusion, Photographers Gallery, Museum of London and the Arles photo festival in France.
