Impress David Hurn with your editing chops
Great opportunity to have a look through a great photographers archive, pair up some photos, win a book — and bragging rights for your editing skills.
From Joni Karanka of the Third Floor Gallery in Cardiff, Wales:
“Passing Time” by David Hurn will open at Third Floor Gallery on the 18th of November, and we’re looking for your collaboration in curating this exhibition. David thought about a little artificial ploy to show the passage of time in his work. That is, to divide the 55 years of his photographic life to date in two parts: before and after 1982. By this means, pairs of photographs are presented together which have both the familiar and dissimilar elements of having been taken years apart.
David has already prepared most of the pairs, but we have allowed room for three more pairs to be curated by members of the public. Thus we are asking you to browse the Magnum archives and find pairs of images from David Hurn’s work. These can match in content or form, place or texture, the only rule being that one has to be taken before 1982 and the other after 1982.
The best pair will win a signed copy of David’s latest book: Writing the Picture

How to propose the pairs? On the Magum’s website there is a Search field. One way is to type there keywords and hurn, for example hurn portrait, or hurn hair, hurn animal, hurn dog… Whatever you can think of. Then you can paste them here in this thread using img src HTML tags or simple http links.
Hope you like the idea and we are looking forward for your pairs.
Your submissions should be placed in this thread on HCSP. Good luck!
(Update: David is liking the process so much that they have now said 5 pairs of images will be included in the exhibit — and all 5 editors will win a copy of his new book, Writing the Picture.)
And if you don’t know about the Third Floor Gallery, keep your eye on them, some great exhibitions thus far — currently they’re showing a selection from Street Photography Now.
